About Alice

Artist Statement

PAINTINGS by ALICE BENJAMIN BOUDREAU aim to express the joy I feel about the world through sharing what I see.

Color, lines, and rhythm are important in the Figures, Abstractions, and Landscapes I've chosen to hang at Becketwood. Most of these paintings are acrylic though I've worked in most media and usually have a sketchbook with me because I love to draw.

I am a Minneapolitan happy to be home after 18 years in Bradenton, Florida and 42 years away from my home town. I studied at Wellesley College near Boston, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the State University of New York at New Paltz. I've painted in Mexico, France and the Southwest, but my Minnesota roots are deep starting at the Minneapolis School of Art, the University of Minnesota, and the Grand Marais Art Colony.  25 years on a farm in Isanti Minnesota let me appreciate rural life and artists in the Cambridge and Mora area and still keep up Twin City connections. My husband Maurice and I spent a year each in Florida and Arkansas and traveled in a van several winters to paint in Mexico before moving.

Teaching has always been a part of my life and continues with me leading an Art Group at Walker Place where I now live. My first job besides babysitting and camp counseling was as an artist in the Zoology Department on the Minneapolis campus of the University of Minnesota where I was a lab assistant in General Zoology.  I taught elementary art in schools near Woodstock, New York, a Junior High in Minneapolis, and elementary again at Northrop and Blake Schools. After marrying there were classes on a farm in Isanti. Cambridge Community College then followed, then Art Centers in Florida. I continued painting, teaching, and being active in art, church, and political activities for 18 years in Florida. Now I am home.

I'm happy to say there have been degrees, awards, juried exhibits, and co-op and commercial galleries, even making “Who's Who in American Art”.  My passion for art keeps me young.
